A fun activity for the whole family
Traditionally used for centuries by trappers in Siberia and Canada, racquets make getting around on snow and powder fields easier. It became a recreational sport, offering adventure in preserved zones or not so easy to reach by ski like the forests. They are a good way of taking a tour and discovering the animals in the mountains in their natural habitat.
Requirements
Everyone in general can get used of walking on racquets. This activity is not a difficult activity that needs some lessons first. So it is sufficient to choose your racquets and you are ready to walk.
Necessary elements
Metrological conditions can change rapidly in the mountain. It is imprudent to take a walk without checking the weather forecast first. It is necessary to wear warm and breathing clothes that cover extremities (gloves, hats…) and something to eat and drink (water, tea, cookies, dried fruit…) in case you get a tiny appetite.
Being accompanied by a guide
It is perfectly imaginable to take a tour on racquets with someone who is specialized in the routes in all winter sport resorts. If you are not alone, but with a small group, it would be nice to go with a guide. He knows the mountain and heritage and will gladly inform you.
Physical conditions
This activity demands a good physical condition. Walking can be exhausting and it is accessible for children from 6 years where you can choose a short distance track with a not so high difference of 300 m. Older people that have the endurance can opt for the 1000 m track.
The equipment needed for this activity is relatively restricted.
Snow racquets
The essential element is obviously a pair of snow racquets. These are easily clicked on shoes with help of special bindings that leave the back of the feet free. Their metallic or plastic frame leave a big contact surface with the snow, to help you walk in the powder.
Shoes
The racquets can be fixed on all shoe types. We recommend using comfortable walking shoes that can protect you from the cold.
Leggings
You will appreciate wearing these if you are going to walk a lot.
Walking sticks
These are indispensable compagnions for some since they help you with your balance. There are numerous sorts: classic, telescopic, pliable…
An avalanche detector
If you are going on a tour alone or you are going off track it might be better to take with you this device.
