What is snakegliss?

Snakegliss is a concept of collective luges and consists of luges that are connected to each other forming a kind of snake that is easily recognizable. The idea being families and groups can do this activity at the same time, making it a bit similar to bobsleigh. The ensemble is piloted in the front by a specialized guide: the more people settle at the end of the craft, the more it moves! The snakegliss is a French activity, done for the first time in 2002 by a mountain specialist in the mountain resorts. It has been accessible for public since 2007.

Like all sport activities on skis, snakegliss requires being in a good physical shape. Indeed, even if it is originally a fun family activity and supervised by an instructor, participants are likely to venture several miles downhill at a steady pace and on various tracks of nature. Furthermore, those who are seated at the back of the craft will feel most thrills and need to take advantage of this.

Snakegliss can usually seat 2 to 20 people, adults and children. In general, children are admitted to this activity from 7/8 years or for all children with a minimum length of 1m20. In order to enjoy this activity freely without danger opens this activity when the slopes close. We recommend wearing a helmet strongly. Participants can use the lifts to get a bit of altitude before going down in full speed for a feeling of maximum thrill!

What material do you need for snakegliss?

Snakegliss requires classic ski equipment. We recommend likewise traditional ski gear with gloves, mask or sun glasses, as well as après-ski shoes or snowboard shoes – avoid ski shoes. In general, a helmet is provided for the activity but his is not in all resorts. Think of inquiring about tis before the start of the activity! And of course, the luges and the system are provided at the resort.

The prices vary on the duration of the activity, the group and the offered gliss experience. The price oscillate generally around €15 for children from 8 to 12 years and €20 from 13 years. A group offer is applied from 10 people included in the activity. The lifts are susceptible to augmenting the price of the activity, don’t hesitate to inquire in the resort, a special lift pas can be offered.

Snakegliss is an activity part of the special developed activities within each ESF in each resort. The activity is done with an experienced guide that knows the mountain and can take routes for the most fun and for crazy laughs all along on the snakegliss!

Where to snakegliss?

Orcieres Merlette 1800, in the heart of Hautes Alpes offers snakegliss with 3 available tracks on site. The curious can meet 30 minutes before the lifts close with a professional guide.

Les Orres in the Hautes Alpes is also a privileged destination for snakegliss with family or a group. The “Fontaines” slope promises the audacious fun for nearly 4 km. It is accessible from 4 years old.

Devoluy in the southeast of the Hautes Alpes also propose snakegliss. The track is accessible for the young ones from 7 years and group offers are provided from 10 people. There is the possibility to book a helmet with this.

Valmeinier situated in Savoy has a snakegliss track accessible for children from 7 years. Of course is a complete warm equipment recommended and the total duration of the activity is usually between 1h and 1h15.

La Plagne, part of the grand domain Paradiski in Savoy is the ideal place to indulge in fun snow activities. You can do this activity from 7 years and has a track of 6 km with 600 m very thrilling. Hot chocolate is offered!

Ax 3 Domaines in the Pyrenees also offers snakegliss form 7 years old. Come try out a spread out track of 6 km with an altitude difference of 600 meters. You can find it every day from 16h15 in the resort with a comeback time of around 18h00 in general.

Come enjoy snakegliss in Porte Puymorens in the Pyrenees. Everything starts with a take-off in a lift followed by a descent on a luge from when the slopes close. You can find this every day from 16h30 from the lift La Vignole for a track of 3,5 km.
